People buy from people. Babe, I want you to have this in the forefront of your mind in EVERYTHING that you do! I want to highlight how important your brand personality is, how to nail it, and how to use it to attract your tribe! It doesn’t matter whether you’re a blogger or business owner, THIS is for you!
Meet Samantha. She’s a consumer and is looking to buy a new lipstick. Her favourite Instagrammer (let’s call her Sophie) is a brand ambassador for company XYZ. Sophie releases a post and does a video on how this lipstick wears and what she loves about it.
Samantha purchases the lipstick after reading the post & watching the video. Why? Because Sophie is a REAL person she can connect to who is promoting a product she believes in. Company XYZ is using Sophie as part of their brand personality.
See how powerful that is? This scenario happens every single day in the world of marketing and hey, it’s worked on me a few times as well! The takeaway here? People want to feel connected to a product or service on a human level.
What Is Brand Personality?
Brand personality covers a few of the following things:
- Your marketing strategies: how you reach your customers & how you interact with them
- Your branding: the colour palette you use, your logo, your packaging if you are a product based business, the look of your website, how you leave people feeling after they visit you
- Your imagery: the style of imagery and how you use your imagery to attract your potential customers
How would you describe your brand’s personality? For example, I would describe Plush Content Co’s brand personality as being fun, confident, sophisticated, & gorgeous. Grab your pen and paper (or your phone) and write down a couple of words that describe your own!
Now, when you think about those words you’ve written down, are they reflected in your marketing activities? Or do you think you’re not quite there yet? Look at your Instagram captions, how you talk on your IG stories, your Pinterest templates, the copy for your Facebook advertising, the copy on your website … everything! All of those things should scream out your brand personality.
People want to buy into what they aspire to be. How are you going to tap into those aspirations?
Create An Emotion In Your Customer
As a consumer, for us to feel connected to things we need some emotional association. Three things are going to do this! Your copy, imagery, and video! Any time you create content, ask yourself HOW you want your ideal customer to feel. Do you want them to feel excited? Intrigued? Inspired?
At the end of the day, I believe your content should do one of three things: educate, inspire, or entertain. When planning out your content, try to cover all three of these areas with your brand personality in mind.
Give In To Video
I know babe, it can be SUPER awkward talking to the camera … I still feel cringe-worthy watching myself back. BUT, if you want to go that one step deeper into the minds of your consumer and really put your brand personality on display, get yourself on video girl!
The BEST place to start is on IG stories if you’re not used to being on camera. You only have to do 15 second snippets at a time and you can keep recording until you’re super happy with it.
For me, IG stories has become a massive part of my content creation strategy and I’ve definitely noticed engagement increasing. Otherwise, get yourself on FB live or Youtube and GO FOR IT. I PROMISE to you it gets a hell of a lot easier the more you talk on camera.
Imagery & Your Brand Personality
A picture speaks a 1000 words – oh, the cliche. BUT, it’s true! With so much competition and saturation in the market (whatever industry you’re in), the ONE thing that is going to help you stand out is your imagery … but it’s got to scream your brand.
There are so many ways you can put your brand personality on display through your imagery. And sure, it can take some time to really think about the style of images you want to portray your brand with.
If you can nail your imagery to the point where someone can recognise it’s you, AND your brand personality is beaming through every facet of your business or blog, you’ve got a winning combination.

It sounds obvious I know. But the EASIEST thing you can do to get across your brand personality to your customer, is to simply be YOU! I know sometimes it can be scary putting yourself out there as we’re often afraid of what people will think of us if they know the REAL us. And by that, I mean the a who is passionate and ambitious as hell to make a blog or biz work for her.
But you know what babe? Those people who judge you, or put you down, or unfollow you, those people ARE NOT your people. They were and are never going to buy from you. So, there’s no point wasting your time on them.
When you write your copy, write as if you were talking to a friend. Pop in that slang, use those swear words (within reason and maybe sensor them), tell people how you really feel, GO ALL OUT! People want to connect with brands and businesses on another level, one that does not involve the sale of a product or service. Give them something else to connect to!
Let’s Tie That All Together
Sure, you gotta go out there and find your tribe. You’ve got to do the hard work. ‘If you build it they will come’ doesn’t really fair well in the online business and blogging world. But when you DO go out and find your tribe, engage with passion and authenticity.
When it comes to creating content, write or shoot in a way that will make someone FEEL something. You’re the one behind the wheel, you’re the one who can make them feel like they NEED what you’re selling in their life. Take ownership of your brand personality and forget what anyone thinks about you.
